Blue Rock Waterski Ice Breaker Event 2013

Every year, Blue Rock Waterski in Somerset West hosts the Ice Breaker competition – a cable wakeboarding competition focused on the riders' ability to tackle a series of UNIT obstacles. I was really stoked when I was asked to cover the event again this year; it's an amazing day that showcases all of our local cable wakeboarding talent. This year we were blessed with one stunner of a winters day. I was particularly impressed by the level of riding from the female riders, and was particularly stoked to be there to see Melissa Colborne land her first railey! Having been a member at Blue Rock for a few years, I've watched Melissa ride since she was about 13 years old and to see how far she has progressed is amazing. The next event is later this year so be sure to keep an eye on Blue Rock's Facebook Page so that you don't miss it. Here are a few shots from the day.

P.S. A big thanks to Ingrid Owen for lending me her fisheye lens on the day.

Riders, fear not: if you don't see a shot of yourself above, I'll be adding a full gallery to my Facebook Page, so keep an eye out. To purchase prints, please contact me.

[PUBLISHED WORK] Do It Now Magazine - Ultimate X: An Action-packed Adventure (Words & Photographs)

Two weekends ago I photographed the Ultimate X festival, South Africa's premier extreme sports event. I had the awesome opportunity to cover the event for South African adventure, sport and lifestyle magazine, Do It Now. Below are some screenshots of the article I wrote accompanied by some of the photographs I got on the day (click on the first image to enlarge). More about Ultimate X and a full gallery of photographs coming to my photoblog and facebook page soon!

Monster King of the Rail Wakeboarding Competition

This weekend I photographed the Monster King of the Rail competition, which took place at the Cape Town International Boat Show. It was the biggest indoor wakeboarding competition in Africa and featured some of South Africa's top wakeboarding stars. The lighting was rather terrible for photography and I didn't have a flash so I had to get a little creative with the editing. Here are some of the shots. Enjoy!

Ice Breaker Cable Wakeboarding Event

Cape Town's local cable park, Blue Rock, hosted an obstacle-only event on the 16th of June. I was so excited about being asked to photograph the event - wakeboarding (well, cable) is a sport I am absolutely passionate about. Despite the windy conditions, all the riders took to the course of UNIT obstacles with determination and gave spectators a radical display of their well-honed skills. What impressed me most were the amount of young up & coming riders; it's great to see the determination and focus of the groms; a focus that, if retained, could see some serious cable & wake stars coming out of SA in the near future. I'll shortly be uploading a full gallery to my Facebook page here.
