Goodbye, Day

I love shooting the sunset. I don't care that it is stereotypical or easy to shoot a sunset. They're beautiful. And they're never the same. There's something very metaphorical about watching the sun set and these shots always serve as reminders about the day I had before the sun went down. I'd love to do a project where I shot a sunset every day for a year (I'm sure someone has done this already) but logistically that's a bit difficult for me to do because it sets behind Table Mountain...and I live on the other side. Here is last night's sunset over Outer Kom in Kommetjie, Cape Town.

Surf(able) - SSA Extreme Abilities Adaptive Surfing Day 2011

Saturday was World Disability Day and I was fortunate enough to shoot the Surfing South Africa Extreme Abilities Adaptive Surfing Day at Big Bay. Basically it was an event to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to surf. It was such a fun day and exceptionally well organised (well done to Tasha Mentasti, Dries Millard and the rest of the team). I have never seen more smiles in my life - everyone was just stoked. Some of these guys have never felt what it's like to ride a wave (imagine that)...see the pics below for the smiles that resulted.

Gone with the wind

I guess we can officially call it summer in Cape Town because the South Easter just won't let up (that's our irritating summer wind for any international readers). I've been itching to shoot some surf but there hasn't been much around. To get my fix I wondered down to Llandudno yesterday evening to see if there was anything worth shooting. The answer...there is always something worth shooting. It may not be the best surf (and I'll be digging sand out of my ears, camera, and hair for a few weeks) but I like to use any opportunity on the beach to learn and practice. So here are my shots from yesterday eve.

(And while we're on the subject of surf photography and Llandudno, treat yourself to a look at these incredible shots taken by Ant Fox. I guess summer does have its perks.)

Sunkissed

I treated myself to a new camera (finally!) and to test it out I teamed up with my beautiful friend, Natasa, to shoot some vintage-style portraits on the beach. It was so difficult to choose my favourite shots but here they are. I hope you enjoy!

Flying a Kite

I always love shooting new things. A few weekends ago we went camping in Onrus with some of our friends, one being, Boris, who is an avid kiteboarder. This was my first time shooting kiteboarding and it proved to be a lot of fun. So on that note you can probably expect to see some more kiting posts from me soon.
